Busy bee catches the worm

Solo, this has slowly turned into the slowest blog ever. For that I apologise. Its been a busy few months to say the least.

The lecture side of things has been an interesting back to school experience, given that many of my class mates are a decade younger than I am! I've been lucky enough to make plenty of friends. As well as taking on board a whole world of physics and anatomy...

Starting on clinical placement was quite an event! Uniform, radiation badge, ID badge and so on.
Its been amazing. I've finally found something I love doing. Working an interesting job with some really great people, and it really is the people who make the job in every respect.

So far MRI is by far and away the best thing I've experienced however working in surgery was a good week if a little surreal.

Mostly I've realised that radiographers are strange and wonderful group of people. If I don't make it in this profession I'll write a sitcom...it will be a big hit....suggestions for names on a postcard.

Denied/Accepted

So a couple of days after my interview I got an email and letter from UCAS saying I'd bee rejected from the course.
Needless to say, I was GUTTED. Properly gutted.

But I sucked it up, got drunk, and made other plans, got on with work and carried on. I applied for the next year, and wrote to the head of Radiology asking what I could improve on to better my chances next time around....and waited....and waited.

Eventually I got a phone call, it was the head of Radiology who was mightily confused at my email...as far as they were concerned I had been accepted for the course! (cue confused look on my face that I wish I had a picture of).
It seems there had been an administrative error on their end. And I was in. Just like that.

So at the age of 28, I was going back to uni.
I am going back to uni.

I am scared and excited in equal measure.

I can't wait.

Interview time....

Well, I'm sitting with a cup of black tea, in my pyjamas with a matter of hours before my interview and in all honesty, I'm not too nervous....I mean I am, but not that sick feeling I usually get.
It might be down to my hearty breakfast of sardines on toast, banana and cranberry juice (not all together obv.)
or it might be down to the fact I'm trying not to think too much about the ramifications of what is going to occur from 12.45 onwards.

Actually looking at the time I should probably start to get ready...the only reason I'm not already suited and booted is my propensity to spill EVERYTHING on clean clothes, especially smart clean clothes!!

Anyway, as fantastically interesting as I'm sure this all is I should get going. Fingers crossed, deep breaths.

Back to school....

I thought I'd start a blog about my attempt at going back to uni aged 27. I did it 9 years ago, and graduated with a degree in 'Playing outside with friends BA(Hons)' more or less, and since then have worked as

  • A Bartender
  • A Waiter
  • A Gamekeeper
  • A Landlord
  • An IT support Technician
  • A Sales Rep

and a few other bits in between....so obviously my next step is to Apply to the University of Hertfordshire to read Diagnostic Radiography and Imaging.

Why? Well to better myself, to do something new and to get into a career that I will enjoy and can take me somewhere.

Anyway this blog will basically about my journey over the next few years of the course....assuming of course that I get in, that will be decided tomorrow based on an Interview. I'm only a little nervous (lies)
